Overshare Alert

Dear Family, Friends, & Internet Strangers~

Six months have passed, and it's time to revisit the Mystery of the Exsanguinating Uterus. Every time I'm lulled into a false sense of normalcy - the belief that all I neeeded was time for my body to recover from the surgery last summer, I am jerked back into the glaring realization that my Hoo-Ha, is in fact, not fixed and is as uncompromising as ever.

So. We last saw our Heroine visit the Army Hospital for a follow-up appointment and then once again, for an ultrasound of her Uterus.

And that's the end of the story.

She never heard back from her doctor and following the School of No News Is Good News, she merrily went on with her life, skipping around and picking daisies (tra-la-la)... Until today. When Life, as she knows it, had to stop for quarter-hourly visits to the Ladies Room, complete with clothes-changes, extra loads of laundry, and trips to the drugstore for more supplies. And, she had to find someone to cover her Time Recording job at the Divisional Swim Meet tomorrow as she will be useless as a Time Recorder if she has to jump up and Take Care of Business every 15 minutes. (Try explaining that to the Team Rep without stuttering a lot and blushing a bit.)

So. If anyone can diagnose me over the Internet and just point me in the direction of some Herbs that can take care of this, or maybe a Kegel-esque exercise, I'd be much obliged.

Thank You,

Paige

Dude. Brandi. Every 15 minutes? Does this happen every month or just some months? Are you on the pill/patch? Is there cramping/pain, too, or only bleeding?

Call the doc and ask for results. Ask for a second opinion. Ask for a consult. See how much a co-pay is for an "out in town" real doc who only looks at hoo-has... I have no clue. I'm just throwing out the first things that come to mind - I feel really badly for you.

THAT's the problem! Several months will go by where things are perfectly Normal. Great, even! And then, out of the blue, the blood-letting and ginormous-clot-passing starts up again and I think I'm dying. But then by the time I get to the doctor, things are all back to normal and he's looking at me like I'm a big baby and I should just Deal. (No pill/patch. THAT'S why we had the vasectomy in the entire first place, because of the BC side-effects!)

Most of the time, there is Nothing Wrong With Me (besides the obvious) and I really do believe that there's nothing Dangerously amiss... that this is more of an inconvenience than an actual Medical Situation. Until days like today. Hideous.

You need to call your doctor ASAP. Something is obviously wrong. It may not be life threatening, but this is not normal. I'm with Jes on asking for a referral to a specialist. They obviously can't do anything this week, but it'll probably take a couple of weeks to get an appointment anyway. Please call tomorrow.

First of all, it is hilarious to read you calling the genital area the "Hoo-Ha". This seems like a midwest thing to me - I know plenty of others who call it that here in, well, you know.
Might I say, I feel your pain. I could replicate your symptoms exactly. My Gyn. told me to do what someone else here suggested long ago in a post: take pills continuously so that you don't have a period. She didn't have to tell me twice!
However, now I am breakthrough bleeding and cramping severely and must go see my Hoo-Ha doc on Monday. Why can't we just get rid of these parts altogether and just keep the clitoris for enjoyment? Is it possible? Sew it up, something...
*P.S. Don't tell the Husband I said that.

Much love to ya - drink often and lots of it. Kills the pain a bit.

It pains me to say this, but maybe the Army hospital isn't the best place to go.

Paige, I certainly don't feel that I know you well enough to comment on such matters, but today I feel very compelled...now for the 5th (count them 5!) time military medicine has blown off one of my friends only to later discover they should have been paying A LOT of attnetion. Luckily, this last one heeded my husbands advice on Tuesday that she HAD to really really push the issue and DEMAND some attention (which I don't think any of us military wives like to do). Well, she called around to some appropriate people to explain her plight and low and behold if they didnt figure out the next day she has a real problem and needs real surgery without delay.(this has been goign on for months) She is a lucky one....my other four friends have not been so lucky. They are all alive of course, but seriously more damaged (missing lungs, and fingers and toes...)than they ever should have been. At any rate do whatever you have to do to get some real attention to this problem. My latest friend with a problem is now trying to switch to TC standard to alleviate some costs of going purely civilian medicine...sorry for the rant. It is just really really upsetting to me how our military members and their families are "taken care of."
Especially now that I am on the other side of the fence and have been able to experience how it should be. I think there are many good doctors in the military but the system is reprehensible. My older friends all say that TriCare has ruined everyhting and that the good 'ol days of just plain champus were much much better.

On a different note, my sister in law has had similar symptoms, although I don't think as severe. Her doctor is suggesting a procedure called uterine ablation which sounds very promising...

Again, I am truly sorry for ranting!
Good luck and I hope you are feeling better very soon!

I'd say go see another dr. I'm having a similar problem. Mine is happening about every 2 weeks or so. Full week and heavy. Cramping and all. I have an appt with my GYN on the 16. This is getting pretty old and I hope they figure it out. For you too.

Ok. Thanks, girls for all your cyber-support. Chicks are the Best at that! I promise to call the doctor next week (which, for those who know me, doesn't really mean a whole heck of a lot, as I despise going to the doctor, but for reals. I will.)

Believe it or not, things are all back to normal today. Actually, it appears as though yesterday I squeezed a week-long, uber-heavy period into one day and it's actually over. And see, now I'm having second thoughts about how bad it actually was and how I really don't need to go to the doctor because there's really nothing wrong...

See the hideous cycle I've created?

But really. I'll call.

Hugs all around.

PS - Nina - Fun-ny!

Just now reading this - I don't think that's normal, even if it was just one day. Try to get in to see someone else soon. ((Hugs))!

Medical student here, sort of stumbled onto your website. I worked with an OB/GYN over the summer, and a few women had similar problems that you have. Yes, taking BC pills is an option, but it doesn't seem to be something that you're interested in. If you have a history of uterine polyp (and you do), it may be that there are new fibroids in your uterus triggering these heavy bleeding episodes. If indeed your new ultrasound shows that you have uterine fibroids, you can take into consideration several surgical options, newest and so far most effective being Novasure procedure. It is not invasive -- no cuts, no stitches, v fast procedure and short recovery period.

Your doctor should not be looking at you like you're a Big Whiner, just because he doesn't have a bleeding vagina! I really do encourage you to go see a GOOD, CARING OB/GYN. It's easy to brush off something bad that occasionally presents itself, but most of the time, heavy uterine bleeding does not resolve spontaneously. And I understand that going to a doctor's office is not something people look forward to. Maybe you've had a bad experience with a physician... But your health doesn't concern only you, you've two beautiful children and a lovely family to consider, too.
