And ON With the Show!

OK! We have a plan:

We're going with the Journal - add a photo, write an essay, draw some art, anything you want to do, and pass it on to the next person. Be creative and represent yourself.

I will organize a Mail-Tree (actually, it'll be more like a Mail-Ray) so that each person on the Tree/Ray gets only the name and address of the person they will forward The Journal to. If you are uncomfortable with anyone knowing your address (besides me, acting in my capacity as "Managing Director of Idea Collection and Entertainment Implementation", which I will not abuse, because you know I'm too lazy to stalk anyone; I barely put any energy into parenting), I have no problem with having The Journal come back to me and I'll forward it to the next person on the list. Please let me know.

We need to establish a "Rules" page. Please add any suggestions in today's comments.
- I'm thinking we should establish a 10-day limit on Journal-holding. That way, the Procrastinators (HI! My name is Paige, and I'm a Master Procrastinator!) have a goal. And email me when it's sent, so we can track it and the next person knows when to expect it.
- Take a photo of your page before you send it on
- And I still like that No Barry Manilow Rule.

We also need a "Project Name". Ditto on the suggestions. Have fun with this and don't be shy... (ie - "Operation Collaboration"... or "Project Bloggers Unite"... or "Sisterhood of the Traveling Journal" (unless we have a boy want to join - which is FINE! Boys welcome! I love boys! Ew. But not in that LeTourneau way. Men. Men are nice. ) AN.Y.WAY! or... Project Add-A-Thought... Operation Snail-Mail Unification... I know these suggestions are lousy. Maybe some wine would help? Anyway, you know, whatever. Work it, people!)

My goal is to get it out by next Monday so anyone who wants to be included should email me your address at cartwheels at mac dot com.

Yes vote on the No Barry Manilow Rule. Adding no Olivia Newton-John and Cher.

I like the 'Traveling Journal', but hate to be a sexist... hummmm, have to think on that one. 'Bloggers of the Traveling Journal'?

When someone new is added.... Journal goes back to Paige, who of course, will need to adjust the mailing schedule...How does that sound?

Love the 10-day limit.

And no wearing plaids and stripes together.

I don't know if this is open to anyone reading the blog. I'm assuming so by the post so I'd love to be involved.

If it's more an exclusive friend thing, that's great too! :) No worries. But it sounds fun. You can email me at sharbour at gmail dot com if you'd like to reply either way.

A. I love the title 'Master Procrastinator'. I once met a man who's title is 'Master Baker'. True story.

B. Brenda, I'm wearing plaids nad stripes together and putting apicture int eh journal and sending it to you ON PURPOSE! :)

C. I like the 10 day rule. Otherwise, we could end up in journal-passing-purgatory.

D. I vote we call it "Blog Spawn-The Journal".

E. If I get together with Brooke and Betty, can we have an extra page to celebrate?

F. Paige, emailing you upcoming address now.

I'll do it! And I bet Bridget will as well...we'll have to talk to her to see if she wants to.

I'm so in!!!

I have ZERO fun suggestions.

Now who is going to work on getting it published?? :)

It's me, Carolie, and I do want to play, I do, I do!
Paige, I've sent you my snailmail, but I will send it again if you need me to.

Rules? Ummm...that those in the states forgive those of us NOT in the states if the mail takes longer than it should...

OOPS! Sorry Carolie!

You are on my Ultimate Mailing Matrix - but I totaly missed you! I also do have your address, so don't fret there. I have re-organized this list in the same order as my Ultimate Mailing Matrix so I'm back in control.

Stephanie!

Of course you can play! You know, in the spirit of, "Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other's gold...." What? Never a Girl Scout?

You should know now, that by signing on, you will be subject to more of the same kitch and terrible jokes. If you think you can handle it, then Welcome Aboard!

I can't wait!! Sending my snailmail in just a few!!

If Omm doesn't play I don't want to either. OK. I will do it without her but it would be really nice since she kind of planted the seed for this idea.

Sorry, Brenda! I can't promise Cher...

I don't have Internet for five days and you're already talking about me?! Haha. I don't get this. Maybe John will call me with the info after he takes his French girlfriend out for some Boston Clam Chowdah and a Red Sox game.

BURN! Excellent one, Bridge!

There's really nothing to get. We like mail. Any mail. So each mailee will create something on a page of our community journal and pass it along to the next person, after which I'll scan/photograph... somehow reproduce the journal in a new blog (?) (there's an idea!), or dedicate a part of Cartwheels to our Traveling Journal Project for everyone to enjoy. It's like a retro-celebration... bloggers using snail-mail... revolutionary.

For the name, I think "Traveling Blogger Journal" says it all, though it's a bit boring.

Make sure you get a BIG journal! Definitely a full sized one, not one of those journals with the small pages (I always got those so I felt like I was writing more and wasn't daunted by the Big Huge Blank Page. We'll need big pages though!).

Maybe we could get someone fancy with the Illustrator to make a logo for the project, and we could put that on the cover, or the first page, and we can all have a little logo on our sites to reference it as well.

A few suggestions for the rules: I think each journaler should have 2 pages, the 2 pages facing each other, so you open it up and the entire 2 pages the viewer sees are all from 1 journaler.

I think that the next journaler should SKIP the next two pages, so that nothing will bleed over and mess up a previous journaler or future journalers. Does that make sense? Will that waste too much paper you think? If someone wants to glue something, or use marker or even PAINT that way they can and they don't have to worry about anyone else's pages to get messed up - skipping in between entries might alleviate any issues with that.

Also, I think the thing I like most about this project is the sense of community it will bring. Maybe instead of having folks photograph and post their own pages on their blog, they could photograph the PREVIOUS blogger's pages and post those pages. You get the journal in the mail, the first thing you do is find the previous person's contribution, photograph it and post it on your blog. Then you make your own contribution and send it on and get to wait eagerly to see YOUR pages on teh next person's blog! So then there's a nice little anticipation of seeing your own pages posted on the next bloggers site, and folks would be referencing other blogs all over the place, and you'd also get to see the thoughts of the person who's posting YOUR pages and what they thought of what you did, it's another way to connect everyone together, and in a way, the journal will be traveling through cyberspace, mirroring what it's doing in real life.

anyway - my 2 cents!! i'm getting excited :)

Great ideas, Amy! (But I'll have to read them again when I'm not suffering The ADD and watching Superstar.) My mom, Omm, had the same suggestion about having each person take 2 facing pages. I like that. But I don't know if we can skip 2 each time. I'll have to check that out. Maybe if someone is going to do something that will bleed through, then they should just skip a page (but not everyone)

Got The Journal! And it's big. But it is boring, so it'll need help. I'm thinking that one over. Dillon's an artist. If I can find him for long enough, I may have him design & decorate. Hmmm. Wonder if I can think of anyone else who can design....

I will write the rules on the first page and

Damn! Check out that evidence of ADD up there. Stopped right in the middle of a sentence. Don't even remember where I was going with it. Mary Katherine Gallagher just got in a fight with Evian...

I created a new blog for those involved the The Traveling Blogger Journal. I just thought it would be easier to see the photos from the journal if they were in one place... I love reading everyones blogs, but I don't have to time to surf around to find out where the journal is and if there is a picture yet....

Please email aka Paige or I ...we are the current administrators of said page, but everyone who is on the Mailing Matrix should be included.

Also... a link to your blogger/web page, so you can be added.
